NBA Stance on Humane Treatment of Bison- February 20, 2009

Working with NBA member, the North American Bison Cooperative, the NBA issued a statement on humane animal treatment to the North Dakota and South Dakota news media. While the Wilder situation was not mentioned by name for legal reasons, the NBA felt it important to reiterate its commitment to humane treatment of bison. In addition to specifying the NBA's Code of Ethics, the statement said:

The National Bison Association (NBA), a Denver-based producer organization, is reiterating its commitment to humane animal husbandry practices. Its 900 members are held to the NBA's Code of Ethics and non-members are encouraged to comply, as well.

"In the face of a harsh winter, particularly in the Northern Plains states, it is important that the NBA reiterate its stance on humane animal treatment and encourage producers to do the right thing by their animals," said Dave Carter, NBA executive director.
