Edible Chesapeake Night: An Evening of Local Food and Entertainment
Event highlights tastes from local growers and producers, ideas for incorporating local foods into your life.
Washington, DC — Edible Chesapeake, the magazine celebrating the local foods of the region, presents an evening of food, locally grown products and multimedia entertainment highlighting the bounty of the Chesapeake region. This special evening gives guests a “taste” of how to incorporate locally grown and locally made foods into one’s lifestyle, and provides an opportunity to meet many of the farmers and artisans behind the movement. The event will take place at the Letelier Theater, 3251 Prospect St. NW, Washington, DC 20007, on October 22, from 7-9 p.m. The event is open to the public. Tickets cost $40/pp and attire is business casual. To purchase, call 301-675-2299 or visit www.ediblechesapeake.com All major credit cards are accepted.
Guests will enjoy elegantly composed appetizers and produce that help demonstrate how easy it is to eat local in any setting. Sample mini-burgers of beef or bison on locally baked organic buns; soups made the old-fashioned way and filled with local goodness from the stock bones to the veggies; fall apples and pears with local cheeses; wines with local terroir. Ingredients for the evening will come from Whole Foods, Roseda Beef, Gunpowder Bison & Trading, Atwater’s, Equinox Restaurant, Chesapeake Gardens, Dragonfly Vinegary and Tarara Winery, among many others.
Guests will also get to know the folks behind all the great food and drink, through slide and video presentations that tell the stories of their farms and businesses. Many of the growers and artisans will be on hand at “Edible Chesapeake Night,” so guests will be able to talk with them and experience the connection between the growers and producers and the food that’s being sampled.
The evening will also include drawings for door prizes from My Organic Market, The Big Bad Woof, American Market at National Harbor, and the Maryland and Virginia departments of agriculture. In addition, guests will get take-home bags with valuable information for putting into practice all the local eating resolutions they’ll make while sampling the evening’s fare.
The Local Food Series at the Letelier Theater is sponsored by the Local Food Project at Airlie. Operating from the Airlie Foundation and Conference Center in Warrenton, Virginia, the Local Food Project offers demonstrations and educational opportunities to promote the benefits of sustainable agriculture and local food systems for the well-being of communities. The Letelier Theater is a hidden gem in Georgetown, easy to reach by foot or bike, and with ample garage parking. Edible Chesapeake is proud to partner with the Local Food Project for this special evening in Georgetown.
